THE GRASS IS GREENER WHERE YOU WATER IT

RACHEL LYN HONIGOCT 18, 2013

Recently, I was with a very smart marketer, but surprisingly we weren’t talking shop.  (OK, maybe we were a little…)

But then, we moved the conversation to his family.  He mentioned that next year he will be married 25 years.  WOW.  Now, in this day and age, that’s impressive.  I, of course, asked him his secret.

“The grass is greener where you water it,” he quickly replied.

I’ve thought a lot about that in the week that followed and realized that in fact, we were in fact, still talking shop at that moment.

Smart marketers, who want to enjoy 25-year-long client relationships must stop and water their own grass, rather than take a grass is greener – or new clients are shinier approach.  It just makes good business sense.

Don’t forget $289.

$289 is the average amount a customer WOULD HAVE SPENT, if they didn’t leave your business due to poor customer service.

So take a look at how green your lawn is.

Push your projection papers off your desk and sit back and think, what can I do for you, my existing customers, that will keep them in this relationship for 25 years.

If you don’t know – do some auditing, quick.

If you do know, ask yourself why you’re not doing it.

If you are doing it, and you are truly watering your own grass in every way possible, now and only now can you start looking over at your neighbor’s lawn and start poaching his property.
